RE: [freedomresidents] children's clothing, etc.

OK, on this subject I suggest we stick to basics.  Look for WHOLESALE and CLOSEOUT lots on the BIG spools of threat like the conical ones for industrial machines.

If buying small spools, get UPHOLSTERY thread and strong nylon thread in basic colors – white, black, brown, green, blue, red.  These will be GREAT barter items too.

Needles are literally a dime a dozen now but may become priceless soon.  Get a handful of each type your machine uses.  Get bunches of hand sewing needles too.  These are small and have NO shelf life.  They will be very useful to us for trade as well.

Chelsea,

This could also include adult clothes in good condition.
Making clothes is also a good skill to have - so with that in mind I would suggest that people who know fabric, thread, and such- when there is a great sale - to pick up 5 or more yards of each type (color) fabric with a spool of coordinated thread and buttons for shirts etc.  I will watch for patterns for kids, men and women. mostly is shirts, blouses, skirts, and such.  I have a machine as do others( I am sure) and we can thereby stock the 'store'?
I am watching sales of yarn too, for sweaters, mittens, scarves, hats, afghan/blankets and socks.
What do you all think?

As popular as consignment stores & sales for children’s clothing items are now, they will only increase in popularity when TSHTF. Those of you with children, please consider saving reusable items your children have grown out of already.

At the very least I see a “store” on FFF for residents to barter/trade in, but we could also think about opening up the idea to the surrounding community.
